Power Quality
It is Surprise Valley Electrification Corp's (SVEC) goal to provide reliable service to all Members. However, it is impossible for SVEC or any other power company to provide service without any power disturbances. It is in your best interest to protect your home from unavoidable power disturbances.
VOLTAGE SURGES
Voltage surges are very short periods of high voltage that happen in the blink of an eye. An extremely high voltage can damage major appliance motors and totally destroy sensitive electronic equipment.
Transient electrical voltage surges are unavoidable power disturbances that occur on all electrical systems. Many voltage surges are caused by storm and weather related activity - lightning is the most dramatic cause of voltage surges - however, voltage surges can take place at anytime.
Research has shown that 65% of voltage surges are generated within the home or business.
Common things occurring everyday can cause a voltage surge. Electricity usually has to travel some distances to get to your home, and many obstacles can occur along the way. Even after the power reaches your home, surges can be caused inside the house.
MOMENTARY POWER INTERRUPTIONS
Momentary power interruptions are an entirely different problem than voltage surges. Interruptions occur when power is completely cut-off from the equipment. Momentary interruptions are an inconvenience; however, they generally do not harm equipment. If you continue to have interruptions, please record when the interruptions occur and contact our office at 530/233-3511. The data you collect will help us to determine and correct the problem.
WHEN EQUIPMENT IS DAMAGED
At times a Member may experience damage to electronic equipment or appliances. SVEC will only cover equipment repair or replacement cost when the damage is caused by human error on the part of an SVEC employee. SVEC is not liable for equipment damage by means outside of our control. In most cases equipment is damaged by unavoidable power disturbances outside SVEC control. For this reason we recommend sensitive electronic equipment be protected.
POWER QUALITY PROTECTION
Since voltage surges and momentary interruptions are unavoidable we recommend that you protect your home and sensitive electronic equipment. We have a variety of high quality protective equipment for sale, as well as information to help you decide what protection is best for your home or business.
Please visit our Alturas office to see the equipment we have available, or phone Member Services (Lynn Culp) at 530/233-3511 for more information.
