Connecting & Disconnecting

If you are moving to another address within the Surprise Valley Electrification Corp. (SVEC) service area, please contact us as soon as possible and tell us the date you wish to have the service disconnected at your present address and the date you want the service at your new address. (These need not be the same date.)

OUR PHONE NUMBER IS (530) 233-3511

SVEC can generally provide next-day service if arrangements are made before 2 p.m. However, to assure that your service is connected when you need it, it is desirable that you make arrangements several days ahead.

FOR UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCES - where you need a service connected or disconnected outside our normal business hours - we can accommodate you; however, there will be a service charge.

MEMBERSHIP

SVEC is a private non-profit cooperative electrical utility owned by the Members it serves.

Customers seeking first time service from SVEC will be required to provide a $5.00 membership fee and a $10.00 connect fee before service is established. A deposit may be required.

DEPOSITS

Since electric service is used prior to meter readings and billing for such service, SVEC may require a deposit as a guarantee. This may be in an amount approximately equal to two times the average bill over the past twelve months. Upon discontinuance of service SVEC will refund the Member's deposit or the balance in excess of the unpaid bills for service. After the member has paid bills for service for twelve consecutive months without having had more than two past due bills, SVEC will refund the deposit on request.

There are a couple of options regarding payment of deposits:

1. The required amount must be paid on or before the connect date.

2. The customer may provide evidence of prompt payment with a credit reference from the customer's previous electric utility, which covers the past 12 months of electric service.

NEW ACCOUNTS

ew accounts may be opened between 8 am and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday (except holidays) by visiting or phoning our Alturas office. New applicants for electrical service will be required to sign an "Application for Membership and Electrical Service" form and supply SVEC with information relating to service requirements and the manner in which power will be utilized. In the absence of a signed "Application for Membership and Electrical Service", delivery of service by SVEC, and its acceptance by the customer, shall be deemed to constitute an agreement, and acceptance of our rules and regulations.

DISCONNECTING SERVICE

A Member who wishes electrical service discontinued must give notice to SVEC five days in advance of the effective date.

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU...

REMEMBER that your deposit, if not previously refunded, will be applied to your final bill. Any remaining amount will be refunded to you. In addition, you may be eligible to receive capital credit payments (see "Capital Credits") sometime in the future, so it is important that you keep SVEC advised of your current mailing address.

BUDGET PAYMENT PLAN

VEC offers a BUDGET PAYMENT PLAN which is designed to make your payments about the same each month of the year. To be eligible for the plan, you must be a residential customer, your account must be current, and you must have one year of billing history. The Budget Payment Plan will greatly reduce fluctuations in the amount you are billed each month.

Your monthly payment is determined by averaging the actual amount of energy you used during the previous 12 months. Budget Payment Plans are started in June, and are recalculated twice a year. Any changes in electrical consumption or rates are averaged in to the recalculation and can cause the Budget Payment to increase or decrease. Fluctuating weather conditions, and changes in holiday baking, house quests or extended absence from the home, can effect the consumption pattern.
